Episode 21: The Patent Baron – Special Guest Janet V. Hallahan, CIPP/US, Partner at Practus LLP

In this podcast, I am joined by a very special guest, Janet V. Hallahan, Partner at Practus LLP. We will be discussing cybersecurity, a matter that is very topical given recent events. Janet has helped a wide variety of companies navigate complex corporate, technology, privacy/data security and IP legal matters for over 15 years. She has been a corporate and technology attorney, not only as a transactional firm attorney but also as in-house counsel in the health care and cloud-based tech industry. She focuses her practice on corporate and tech transactions, commercial agreements, cloud computing/software, privacy and data security. She is a certified CIPP/US information privacy professional by the Int’l Assoc. of Privacy Professionals. A link to Janet’s bio with more is provided below.

Since cybersecurity is a hot topic, we first define it to set the table, and then run through an example of how a cyber attack can impact business large and small using a third-party story. Often small- and medium-sized business think that cyber attacks are only for multinational corporations. However, as those companies bulk up their cybersecurity, hackers and cyber attackers are shifting their focus to smaller, less protected prey. We discuss how to help deter cyber attacks and steer them toward others instead of your business.
